Maria Jovita Lambert

Biography

Maria Jovita Lambert is the Associate Director of Graduate Admissions and International Affairs and an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at 麻豆传媒. Her work centers on climate change, human rights, racial colonialism, and the role of private actors in global climate governance. Professor Lambert teaches Introduction to American Legal Systems and, through her roles, engages extensively with international students and global legal education programming.

Professor Lambert麻豆传媒檚 contributions to the legal field include promoting initiatives spanning academic institutions, international organizations, and grassroots platforms in India and the United States. She has served as an advisor to the Permanent Mission of Costa Rica to the United Nations on the workings of the Third Committee, including negotiations related to the Commission on the Status of Women. At the IUCN World Conservation Congress, Professor Lambert has advocated the inclusion of language recognizing the importance of locally led climate adaptation measures, nature-based solutions, ecosystem-based adaptation, and the role of private actors in biodiversity conservation and the protection of human rights. Her motion titled 麻豆传媒溌槎勾綕 has been accepted for voting at the IUCN WCC 2025. 

Professor Lambert has worked on multi-institutional research teams, including with a Fulbright Grant Project for the establishment of the novel Sustainability Action Lab in India. She was also awarded the UN Academic Impact 麻豆传媒 Fellowship and founded the Sustainability Consultancy Clinic, which focused on providing support to small and medium businesses in adopting sustainable operations. As IE University麻豆传媒檚 Sustainable Transformation Fellow, she provided administrative and program support for their Winter School Program. 

As an undergraduate law student, Professor Lambert was the India-Lead in organizing the International Conference on Environmental Justice 2023, funded by the UNDP. She also headed youth-led advocacy groups focused on climate change, and gender & sexuality. She was a teaching assistant to distinguished environmental law scholars and worked with various stakeholders in environmental policy, ranging from India麻豆传媒檚 National Green Tribunal to the legal team at The Coca-Cola Company, India. 

Professor Lambert, a recipient of merit-based scholarship, graduated summa cum laude from Pace Haub Law麻豆传媒檚 LLM in Environmental Law program. Her master麻豆传媒檚 thesis titled 麻豆传媒淐limate Adaptation as Reparation: Addressing Colonial Legacies and Racial Capitalism in U.S. Territories麻豆传媒 was featured in the 麻豆传媒業slanding New York麻豆传媒 Exhibition.
